Household, Urban & Structural IPM
More than 3.7 million people live in Oklahoma. While Oklahoma is often perceived as a "rural" state in terms of population, more than 1.5 million Oklahoman's live in the urban metropolitan areas of Oklahoma City and Tulsa, and 2.3 million are classified as "urban" according to the US Census Bureau. Urban environments offer many challenges for managing associated urban and structural pests. One of the most damaging structural pests is the eastern subterranean termite, which exists throughout Oklahoma. Another pest making a big return is the bed bug. Fortunately, IPM provides a flexible system for managing household, urban and structural pests that is adaptable to any environment in Oklahoma. Oklahoma State University continues to work to develop and deliver effective household, urban and structural IPM programs in Oklahoma.
