Turfgrass Science
OSU Turfgrass Science
There are approximately 163,800 km2 of cultivated turfgrass in the United States representing an area three times larger
than any irrigated agricultural crop. The turfgrass industry contributes approximately
$40 billion per year to the United States economy and approximately $1 billion per
year to the Oklahoma economy.
Turfgrass Diagnostic Laboratory
The Turfgrass Diagnostic Laboratory (TDL) is a subsidiary of the Plant Disease and
Insect Diagnostic Laboratory in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at
Oklahoma State University. The TDL is supervised by Dr. Nathan Walker who also teaches
and assists graduate students studying turfgrass management how to diagnose samples.
The TDL offers rapid diagnosis of turfgrass disorders, with preliminary results delivered
in 24-48 hours after initial examination of the samples. Detailed reports will be
delivered after the initial diagnosis has been confirmed. The Plant Disease and Insect
Diagnostic Laboratory (PDIDL) will continue to offer premier diagnosis of insect and
disease problems for plants other than turfgrass.
