Japanese Aucuba or Japanese Laurel 
Japanese aucuba is a beautiful broadleaf evergreen shrub that can reach 6’ to 10’ high with equal or slightly greater spread. It is tolerant of heavy shade. In its native habitat it is found growing in forests in rich, moist soil near streams and shaded moist rocks, avoid overly wet soils. Established plants are tolerant of clay soil and dry conditions.

False Indigo or Wild Indigo
False indigo is a native perennial that can grow 2-4 feet high with colorful flowers in late spring to early summer. Following the flowers are inflated seed pods that turn black as they ripen with seeds rattling when shaken. Several species grow in Oklahoma providing flower colors from blue, purple, yellow and white. Hybrids have been developed providing plants with sturdy stems that are more floriferous with many colors and shades ranging from blue to purple, pink, red, white, and yellow.

Ornamental pepper is a beautiful and tough annual grown for its colorful fruits, attractive foliage, and compact habit. Fruit develop early on and last all summer and come in many bright colors, including red, purple, orange, and yellow.
