Basic Tomato Sauce
Make a homemade tomato sauce for your Italian dishes with this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Roma tomatoes, coarsely chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3/4 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
- 1-1/2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender. Run until a rough-textured sauce results. Adjust flavors to taste.
For 2 servings pasta: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add 4 ounces pasta and cook according to package directions. Drain well. Return pasta to pot along with sauce. Toss over low heat about 1 minute or until heated through.
Yield: about 1-1/2 cups, Serves 2
