Why Become a Master Wellness Volunteer?

The Master Wellness Volunteer should experience a variety of benefits as a result of participating in the program. Learning experiences will vary from individual to individual; their skills and abilities and their receptiveness to the program will determine how much they are able to gain from the program.

Volunteer Commitment

Applicants selected for the Master Wellness Volunteer program are expected to complete the certification process which includes:

 

  • participate in all education sessions, receiving 25 hours of core subject matter education including:
  • One in-person orientation (6 hours)
  • Six, 1.5-hour Zooms, held weekly for 6 weeks (9 hours)
  • Five core subject training videos (5 hours)
  • Five hours of internship (5 hours)
  • complete Oklahoma State University’s annual required trainings (including but not limited to Working with Respecting Civil Rights)
  • reinvest a minimum of 25 hours of program service per year, including preparation time
  • complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education per year
  • refrain from endorsing any commercial products/brands or implying that OSU Extension endorses any specific brands, stores, or products to the exclusion of others
  • conduct educational programs in a nondiscriminatory manner
  • provide own transportation

 

Following completion of the core training, a Master Wellness Volunteer is required to complete 10 hours of continuing education per year and may choose to receive further training in one or more areas. These hours would go toward the yearly continuing education requirements. The following are proposed areas of specialization and may not be fully developed at this time.

 

  • Stay Strong Stay Healthy
  • Walk with Ease
  • Poverty Simulations
  • Food demonstrations
  • Opioid awareness
  • Diabetes prevention
