Turf
Managed turf is grown for use in residential areas, for sports fields and golf courses in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is in the "transition" zone for turf species, so warm season and cool season turf species are grown here. Bermudagrass is the most common turf grown for residential lawns, sports facilities and golf courses, but fescue, St. Augustine, buffalograss, Kentucky bluegrass, bentgrass and other turf species are also grown. Management of turf is also variable depending on the intended use. The varied species that can be grown in Oklahoma and the systems required for their production and maintenance create challenges for managing weed, disease and arthropod pests of turfgrass. Fortunately, IPM provides a flexible system for managing pests that is adaptable to any environment and turf species in Oklahoma.
