Letter from Gale Mills, FCS Educator
A letter detailing Gale's FCS work in Nowata County.
Shortly after starting with Extension in Nowata County last year I assisted with the county fair. I have also had the pleasure of working with the Nowata oVunty Oklahoma Home and Community Education organization. What a great group of volunteers! This year is the focus has been on gaining new members with a variety of craft workshops. Last week we just finished a big event in South Coffeyville. The Bellevue group meets in Gibbs Hall on the second Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. Some of the monthly educational lessons include: the hidden truth about herbs, maintaining your car in tip-top shape, learning about depression glass, what is the difference between an estate, auction and tag sale and many others. For questions about OHCE call the Nowata County Extension office at 918-273-3345.
In January and February, I presented a series of lessons on Bullying called “Take A Stand” to the 4th graders at Nowata Public School. Currently I am training many volunteers in Nowata County as Family and Consumer Sciences Master Volunteers. Upon completion of this course this group of individuals will be able to teach and volunteer in many ways using OSU Extension research-based material in a variety of settings in Nowata County.
Monthly I give a program on a variety of topics at the Nowata Senior Citizens Center at 10 a.m. Typically the programs are given on either a Monday or Wednesday. Call the Senior Citizen center at 918-273-1151 or e-mail me at email@example.com for monthly lesson titles.
This summer I hope to hold some 4-H sewing workshops with the help of our OHCE volunteers. If 4-H members or the public is interested in a program in any area of family and consumer sciences, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call the Nowata County Extension office at 918-273-3345.
Plans for the fall include some programming at Nowata Elementary School to include the Farm to You exhibit when it returns in a new and improved format.
Also, I have weekly news articles that are sent to Good Newspress in Caney, the Nowata Star and the Coffeyville Journal. Also, listen to my program on Bartlesville radio 1400 AM every Saturday morning around 6 a.m.
Best wishes from the Nowata County Extension Office!
