By keeping careful records of your activities, you are eligible to win awards and trips in various areas of interest. The following is a list of some of the awards available at the county and state level. These are awarded on an interview and your county or state record book.

 

Awards Based on Record Books

 

Clover Awards

Bluncks Studios sponsors the Clover Award for the top two outstanding junior 4-H’ers that have completed the 8th grade. Members receive a 8”x 10” color portrait. A 4-H’er must have completed the following:

  • 8th grade the year that they enter
  • County or State 4-H Record Book by the date.

Winners will be selected on 50% record book work and 50% personal interview. Candidates for interviewing will be selected from those 4-H members having completed the 8th grade.

 
4-H’ers just completing the 7th grade will only be considered when the number of past 8th graders is three or less. Also, those  4-H’ers just completing the 6th grade will only be considered when the number of past 8th and 7th graders total three or less. A 4-H’er can only win this award once.

 

Senior Hall-of-Fame Awards

Blunck Studios sponsors our county Hall-of-Fame portraits, which hang in the Custer County Courthouse. Members receive a 16”x 20” color portrait. For the Senior Hall-of-Fame Award, a 4-H’er must have completed the following:

  • sophomore year in high school
  • four years of 4-H club work
  • County or State 4-H Record Book

The top two Senior 4-H’ers will be named to the Custer County Hall-of-Fame. Winners will be selected on 50% record book work and 50% personal interview. A 4-H’er can win Senior Hall-of-Fame only once.

 

Senior Scholarship

The Custer County Parents and Leaders Organization rewards graduating 4-H’ers who have been a contributing part of the program, have turned in at least four record books (one must be turned in their Senior year) and will be continuing their education. Recipients receive a $150 scholarship.

 

Barton Award

Each year, the outstanding graduating senior 4-H club member and the outstanding senior FFA member of Custer County are honored in the spring at the Custer County Junior Livestock Show. Selections are based on the County or State 4-H Record Book, county participation and a personal interview

 

Kiwanis Award

Each year the Clinton Kiwanis Club honors the outstanding graduating senior 4-H member. This award is based on the County or State 4-H Record Book, county participation and a personal interview.

 

Outstanding 4-H Club Awards

The Outstanding Junior and Senior 4-H Clubs will be awarded a trophy based on one year’s work and county participation. Each club should submit an Outstanding 4-H Club Application located in the back of this book. Applications are due in the Custer County OSU Extension Office by June 1st. The name of the winning club will be engraved on a

traveling trophy and presented at the Custer County 4-H Achievement Banquet. A club must win the trophy three out of five years for permanent possession.

 

Outstanding Secretary Awards

An Outstanding Club Secretary Award is selected each year on the basis of the Secretary’s Book. Accuracy and neatness are all considered for this award. Books must be turned in by June 1st.
 

Outstanding Reporter Awards

An Outstanding Club Reporter Award is selected each year based on 4-H club reporting by the individual club reporters. A notebook of newspaper clippings that the reporter has written must be turned in by June 1st to the OSU Extension Office.

 

Outstanding Club Scrapbook Award

An outstanding Club Scrapbook is selected each year based on a 4-H club’s work shown in an overall summary of photographs, news articles etc. The scrapbook can be complied by the club as a whole or individual effort. Due June 1st

 

Other Awards for Individuals & Clubs (Not Based on Record Books)

 

Outstanding Junior and Senior Exhibitors:

25 dollar awards are given to the outstanding junior (6th grade and under) and senior (7th grade and above) exhibitors at the Custer County Free Fair.

 

Selection of winners is made by the number of entries in the fair by an individual 4-H’er. All entries must be made or grown that year. All animal events entered are also counted. 4-H’ers must turn in a complete list of their fair exhibits with their name, class names and exhibits to the Custer County OSU Extension Office by October 1st. The prize can only be won once in each division.

 

Special Project Awards

Bread, Beef & Pork all have special awards at the county level. For more information contact the Extension Office for the criteria to compete for these awards.

 

Outstanding Citizenship Award 

Taler Sawatzky, past State 4-H Secretary and State Citizenship Award winner is sponsoring a monetary award and gift to the county citizenship award winner. You can receive this award by submitting your application (available at the Extension Office) by June 1st.
