The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University is the place to be on Sept. 28. Children’s activities, plant sales, educational activities, arts and crafts vendors, therapy goats, food and more will be featured at the annual GardenFest celebration.
This year’s free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Botanic Garden at OSU is located west of Stillwater, Oklahoma, on the north side of State Highway 51.
“Late September is a great time to visit the garden and be out in nature because the landscape is still colorful, and the weather has cooled off,” said Lou Anella, garden director. “We focus on the family, and there will be something for all family members at GardenFest.”
A mum and pumpkin sale will be held at the north end of the garden from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 27 and during GardenFest on Sept. 28.
Payne County Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer gardening questions, plus there will be a variety of children’s activities, said Shelley Mitchell, OSU Extension senior specialist.
“Children can use their imaginations in the Treewalk Village and the Mud Kitchen,” Mitchell said. “The children’s garden features a playhouse, a crawl-through tunnel and a tiny library. The Treewalk Village in the Pin Oak Grove has a play structure with bridges, platforms and a slide, and is accessible.”
The Botanic Garden at OSU offers many children’s activities to encourage creativity in the outdoors.
Garden visitors can stop by the new Horticulture Education Center on the garden grounds where a hands-on children’s experience will be offered with insects. OSU Extension’s Insect Adventure is a unique educational experience for youth and will be open from 10 a.m. to noon. There is a $3 per person admission fee.
Updates for The Botanic Garden at OSU are available on its website or Facebook page.
