Viticulture and Enology
OSU Extension provides educational opportunities and research to address issues that
concern Oklahoma grape growers and wine makers. Research plays an important role in
the viticultural and enological efforts, and researchers continue to expand on those
efforts.
The OSU Perkins Fruit and Nut Research Station (now the Cimarron Valley Research Station)
has a large cultivar and rootstock trial vineyard. Since 2001, the research station
has yielded a tremendous amount of information with direct applicability to Oklahoma
grape growers. Great potential exists in Oklahoma for growing grapes and making wine
of high quality, and the team of experts at OSU will be in the vanguard to aid the
industry in developing a strong, sustainable future.
Oklahoma Pecan Management
The Oklahoma Pecan Management website helps Oklahoma pecan growers and others access
information pertinent to Oklahoma pecans. It also provides pecan management recommendations
in accordance with real-time, local weather data reported through the statewide automated
weather-monitoring network, Oklahoma Mesonet.
Native pecans in Oklahoma and are well-adapted to the areas in which they grow. However,
improved or introduced varieties may not have the same benefit. Oklahoma pecan orchard
management practices for improved varieties may favor those of northern, eastern or
western pecan production regions depending on the location in the state.
