Poultry Classes

The Poultry Waste Management program from OSU Extension features classes, a newsletter and an informative website. These resources were created to help Oklahoma’s poultry producers and poultry waste applicators by providing convenient access to poultry waste management education schedules, regulatory information, related publications and local Extension contacts.

Programs Supporting Poultry Litter Management

Oklahoma Litter Market

Oklahoma Litter Market serves as a free communication resource that lists sellers and service providers of poultry litter. Marketing poultry litter to more distant nutrient-deficient areas or for further processing offers one solution to the litter surplus issue associated with high production areas. View current fertilizer prices Two River Coop. The Oklahoma Litter Market participant listings are added and maintained throughout the year. Download the Oklahoma Litter Market flyer to view the list of sellers and service providers. Contact Brad Bain, brad.bain@okstate.edu, to be added or update your listing.

Poultry Litter Transfer Program

This program will provide an incentive to the poultry grower to sell litter to a qualified buyer but also to the buyer to help offset the cost of transport. For more information and guidelines, view the Poultry Litter Transfer Program document.

Urgent Notice for Poultry Farm Operators within the Illinois River Watershed

A judgement was made by a Federal District Court on December 19, 2025, that took effect immediately. The Department of Agriculture, Food, & Forestry (ODAFF) is providing notice of this determination and its applicability.

Please be advised, this judgement only applies to those Poultry Feeding Operations associated with the listed “Defendants” and located in the Illinois River Watershed. These farms and “Defendants” must ensure land applications of Poultry Waste/Litter do not Exceed the following:

  • Land applications that result in or exceed 120 lbs/acre of Soil Test Phosphorous (STP).
  • Application rate shall also be limited to 2 tons or less of poultry waste per acre.
  • No land application is allowed if the STP is 120 lbs/acre or more.

As always, you should be obtaining litter and soil samples prior to land application to ensure land application rates will not exceed limits prior to the application.

Note: The Illinois River Watershed encompasses parts of northeastern Oklahoma (Adair, Cherokee, Delaware, & Sequoyah counties) as well as northwestern Arkansas (Crawford, Benton, & Washington counties).

You may access a copy of this judgment at the link. Producers with questions on their Oklahoma property locations may contact the Agricultural Environmental Management Division of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry at aems.poultry@ag.ok.gov or by phone at (405) 522-5998.

Producers and applicators wishing to avoid large public meetings, or if driving distance is an issue, can view recordings of our trainings at their local county extension office. These viewings can be scheduled at any participating OSU Extension Office in Oklahoma. Recordings will last approximately 2 hours.

Appointments can be made beginning May 1. Producers who received letters from ODAFF stating they were out of compliance and required to obtain “make-up” hours before June 30 should complete the course prior to June 15.  All other producers can take the class anytime through December 15.

To make an appointment, contact your localOSU Extension Office.

You will be given your attendance certificate at the completion of the training, and you must sign in to receive credit.
