Habitat

Scorpions generally hide during the day and are active at night. They tend to live under boards, stones, or other objects; or beneath loose bark on trees and logs. Indoors, they are most often found in crawl spaces and attics. During the summer they often enter houses. Although scorpions tend to be found on dry land, they require moisture and may be attracted to water sources. 

 

Description

Adult striped scorpions are yellowish tan with two broad, darkened longitudinal bands on the top of the abdomen. They are up to 3.5 inches long. The female produces living young, which she carries on her back for five to 15 days. It takes three to four years for the young to reach maturity. Adults may live two to five years. Oklahoma may have from 3-5 species of scorpions. 

 

Sting

The scorpions found in Oklahoma are not considered dangerously poisonous; however, if stung, one may want to consult a physician.
