OSU Extension Providing Free Webinars on Emerging Livestock Diseases and Pests

The Oklahoma State University Extension Ranchers’ Thursday Lunchtime Series of webinars returns this fall, focusing on animal health challenges facing the livestock industry, like New World screwworm, pasture mealybug and Bovine Theileriosis.

The weekly series is free to the public, but registration is required for each event. Questions and feedback are encouraged. All webinars will begin at noon and end at 1 p.m.

The following sessions will be held over the next month:

• August 27 – New World screwworm: Animal health official update
  Sara Ahola, USDA (APHIS), New World screwworm national incident coordinator, and Rod Hall, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry state veterinarian.
• September 3 – New World screwworm treatments and economic impacts
  Jonathan Cammack, OSU Extension livestock entomology and parasitology specialist, and Amy Hagerman, OSU Extension agriculture and food policy specialist.
• September 10 - Bovine Theileriosis in Oklahoma: Current status and practical prevention
  Ruth Scimeca, assistant professor for veterinary pathobiology, OSU.
• September 17 – Theileria Orientalis Genotype Ikeda: Approaches from the field
  John Currin, Virginia Tech Extension veterinarian.
• September 24 – Pasture mealybug: What producers need to know
  Ashleigh Faris, OSU Extension IPM coordinator and cropping systems entomologist.
